Ross Leaders Academy

Ross Leaders Academy: Experience-Based Leadership Development for the 21st Century

The Ross Leaders Academy will be the first of its kind in the world. It will build on cutting-edge, practice-oriented leadership research by Michigan Ross faculty, and the Ross Leadership Initiative’s track record of creating high-impact, action-based learning experiences. It will experiment with tools, techniques, and structures designed to drive experience-based leadership development. It will explore how leaders can further their development goals while making a large and positive impact in the community. It will embody Michigan Ross’s vision of developing leaders who make a positive difference in the world.

An ambitious Detroit impact project will be at the center of the program. Participating students will partner with stakeholders to co-create deep understanding and new insights around a core community issue. Their challenge will be to launch a new, sustainable initiative in the city that will add social and economic value, and their efforts will provide rich context for leadership development. Student learning will be supported with awareness-building activities, individualized learning objectives, feedback, professional coaching, and an ongoing process of structured reflection. In the long term, the Ross Leaders Academy has the potential to serve as a preeminent model for experience-based leadership development, and generate a network of Michigan students and alumni who are committed to using business as a force for positive change in the world.
