ARD

Student Engagement in Authentic Research Design

This is an effort to engage synthetic chemistry laboratory students in authentic research design (ARD). The central hypothesis is that participation in ARD will enhance student critical thinking and problem-solving skills, thus addressing the primary goal of the Third Century Initiative to stimulate creative thinking among students and faculty by encouraging student engagement to solve/explore research problems. The proposed approach will augment the research experience afforded to students at UM by promoting an action-based-learning experience within a classroom laboratory setting, which will translate into an enhanced educational experience for all students that participate in chemistry lab courses.
